Privacy policy

Ash Hole (ashhole.net) is a free browser game. You don't create an account and we never ask for your name, email or phone number. This page explains what the game does collect while you play, why, and who helps us process it.
Questions or requests: privacy@ashhole.net.
What we collect
- Gameplay events — which modes and stages you play, how a stage ended, where and how your bomber died, power-ups, settings you change, rooms you create or join, and how long the game took to load.
- Device and connection details — browser and operating system, screen size and orientation, device memory and CPU cores, connection type and speed (for example, 3G or 4G), whether data saver is on, and frame rate.
- Approximate location — country, region and city, estimated from your IP address. Your IP address may be stored with these events.
- Session recordings and heatmaps — a low-frame-rate recording of the game screen and page (taps, clicks, mouse movement, what you type into the game such as your nickname or a room code), browser console messages and network timings. We don't record request contents. On slow connections, with data saver on, or on low-memory phones, recording is reduced or switched off.
- Errors — crash reports from your browser and from our game server, with the scene, stage and room where they happened.
- Your nickname — the name you type is shown to other players in online rooms and is passed through our game server. Please don't use your real name or anything personal.
-
Ad click identifiers — if you open the game from an ad, the link carries a click
identifier (for example
gclidfrom Google orfbclidfrom Meta) and campaign tags (utm_*). We store them with your analytics profile. See Advertising.
All of this is tied to a random identifier created in your browser, not to your name. We use it to see where new players get stuck, what's too hard, what's slow on which phones, and to fix bugs.
Stored on your device
The game keeps your settings, progress, nickname, bomber look, button layout, saved levels and the random analytics identifier in your browser's local storage, plus one first-party analytics cookie. Nothing here is shared with other websites. Clearing this site's data in your browser resets all of it, including your progress.
Playing online
Online rooms run either on the host player's device or on our server. In a room hosted on a player's device, your browser connects directly to theirs (WebRTC), so the host's browser can technically see your IP address. If a direct connection isn't possible, the traffic goes through our relay server. Rooms hosted on our server don't connect you to other players directly.
Advertising
We advertise the game on Google and on Meta (Facebook, Instagram). To learn which ads bring players who actually play, when you arrive from an ad and then, for example, start your first game, our analytics service tells Google or Meta that this click led to that action. It sends the click identifier, the time and type of the action, and technical details such as your browser's user agent and IP address. We don't send your nickname or gameplay details, and we don't run Google or Meta tracking scripts on this site.
How Google and Meta use this data is described in the Google Privacy Policy and the Meta Privacy Policy. You can control ad personalisation in your Google and Meta account settings.
Who processes the data
- PostHog — product analytics, session recordings and error tracking, hosted in the EU.
- Hetzner Online — hosting of the website, game server and relay server.
- Google Ads and Meta — ad conversion measurement, as described above.
We don't sell your data.
How long we keep it
Session recordings are deleted automatically after a limited retention period. Gameplay events and error reports are kept while they help us improve the game. You can ask us to delete your data at any time.
Your choices
-
To play without analytics, open
ashhole.net/?noanalytics. Nothing is collected during that visit; bookmark the link to keep it that way. - To see or delete your data, write to privacy@ashhole.net. As we don't know who you are, tell us the nickname you used and roughly when and from which device you played, so we can find it.
Children
Ash Hole is a general-audience game and asks nobody for contact details. If you're a parent and want data from your child's play deleted, write to us and we'll remove it.
Changes
If what the game collects changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
